Ghent, West Virginia, home to the Winterplace Ski Resort, is a small town in Raleigh County. "Winterplace," West Virginia
While most people refer to the town of Ghent as Winterplace, it's actually the name of the Ski Resort on top of Flat Top Mountain. The Southern West Virginia visitor's bureau promotes Winterplace as "the most accessible, affordable ski resort in the Southeast.
Top elevation is 3,600 feet with a vertical descent of 603 feet. There are over 90 acres of skiable area, with 28 trails, a terrain park, and nine lifts. The 16-lane snow tubing facility is said to be the largest in all of West Virginia.
Winterplace receives an average of 100 inches of snow each year. But just in case that's not enough snow, there's a 50 million gallon reservoir lake that allows for artificial snowmaking.
