Welcome to Our Home Away From Home
When we drive up from Florida, we always take !-95 through Georgia into South Carolina. In South Carolina we take I-26 to Columbia. Just before Columbia we get on I-77 to West Virginia. (Now on I-77 there is a slight interchange numbering. But you won't get lost and it's well marked for about a 5 mile stretch.) Just as you get in to West Virginia, the town of Princeton will be on your right. Trice and I go to the their local Wal-mart and get our food and drinks. It's only about another 20 minutes from there before you come across the Ghent exit. From that point, the Winterhaven condominiums and the front door to Condo Unit D101 is only about 10 minutes away. Follow the sign's to the Winterplace Ski Resort. As you enter the parking lot, go straight forward and up the hill to the condos. There are 36 condos in all. We are the first unit on the bottom level of the right side of the building. There's a handicapped parking space right in front of Unit D101.
Now, when I drive, I like to go about 72. When the traffic starts to back up I go down to 65 for about 30 minutes. That's all it takes for the traffic to get back to normal. I stop about twice for 15 minute breaks. When I eat lunch, I don't go to the fast food restaurants. I like to sit down and eat, probably for about 45 minutes or so. Time of our trip is usually about 9 hours from home (just about Jacksonville, Florida) to the front door of our Winterplace condo. It's all interstate and I love the drive.
At the bottom of the hill (at the Ghent exit) there area a few of the ski rental shops for equipment and supplies. We always prefer to get our gear at the Winterplace Resort. Not that the shops aren't great, we've just found it a little easier on our last night of skiing to return equipment and obtain lift tickets. In addition, if you have any first time skiers and little children, the equipment is sometimes included in your lessons. They also offer packages sometimes that include equipment and lift tickets. So, I'd give the Winterplace Resort a try first.
During the day, Winterhaven Condominiums has a deli service inside the lodge. We mostly eat at the condo, but it always seems like we still end up in the main Winterplace lodge. Mainly this is due to having grandchildren learning how to ski. Besides, can you tell me anything better than some hot chocolate during days of skiing. There are quite a few people who prefer to watch skiing instead of actually skiing. They'll usually hang out and mingle in the Winterplace Lodge. If you want to sit back, put your feet up and warm them toes by a fire, then go to the Winterhaven Lodge. It's right next door to our unit - D101. Bring a magazine and chill out.
