Winterplace, The Ski Resort
Winterplace has to be one of the Best Family orientated ski resorts I have ever been to. It was so impressive that Trice and I decided to purchase Unit D101 at Winterhaven Condominiums. We've had the opportunity to ski and visit other West Virginia locations, New Hampshire, Virginia and Colorado. But the Best for the buck is right here in Winterplace.
Winterplace has exploded with the means to create their own snow. They have the best and most advanced snow making capabilities in the entire east. This may not be a fact, but I do know that on the longest skiing day, the open lifts at 8 a.m. and don't close them until 10 p.m.
Winterplace has some neat things. There's a full rental shop offering everything from ski equipment to clothes. There's also lessons, lift tickets and a lodge. If you have never skied or you have children who need to learn, you're at the right place. The resort offers a Guaranteed Learn to Ski program for adults and a "Ski-wee" for children that's beyond cute. In the "Ski-wee" program, they go I think about 8 a.m., have something to eat and then they're outside ad learning how to ski. They'll stop for lunch and then it's back outside to learn some more. If one afternoon you look up and see what appears to be ducks (all traversing down the hill that you have been trying to conquer) then look again. It's your child. The fee includes meals, skiing, lift tickets and equipment. Winterplace also has a babysitting service.
Winterplace Ski Resort of West Virginia offers day and night skiing. There's also snow boarding. My children say it's great. I say it hurts when I fall. But later in the day when you think you've had enough, try out the snow tubing park. What a blast (oh - and by the way, they will include it on your daily lift pass.) Going up and down all of those man-made runs on that tube will bring you and your family that final thrill for the day.

We want your trip to be memorable for positive reasons, not negative ones. Just keep in mind that anything can be dangerous if you let yourself get out of control. Thinking that you can do something you know in your heart you're only hoping you can do, is not being responsible.
